MLB Power Rankings: May 8

MLB Power Rankings: May 8
There's a new number one this week! And for good reason...
And there is going to be some exciting baseball this week!
But one side note real quick... The Baltimore Orioles are living up to my expectations this year. They enter today 8-26 which is an absolute embarrassment to an organization that has always been fighting for a playoff spot. But as some of you readers who have been reading my articles before know, it's been tough sailing for the front office in Baltimore. They kept Zach Britton and Machado instead of trading them when they had leverage and health... Now they're desperately stuck with an injured Britton and a Machado who is killing it this year but will be a free agent next year and now the Orioles have lost all leverage in trade discussions because they're no way near a playoff spot.
Just an interesting story to follow as the season develops and Machado continues to be in Baltimore...

Alright, first here is
Last week's Top 10
1. Arizona Diamondbacks
2. Boston Red Sox
3. Houston Astros
4. New York Yankees
5. Cleveland Indians
6. Chicago Cubs
7. Los Angeles Angels
8. Atlanta Braves
9. Philadelphia Phillies
10. Seattle Mariners

New Top 10
1. New York Yankees
This team has earned it up to this point of the season. They're on one of the toughest parts of their schedule all year and they are just buzz-sawing right through it... That being said, they are still in the tough part of this stretch in that they have the Red Sox this week. I'm sooooo excited to watch this series and this pennant race as both teams seem to be pushing each other to be so much better just like what we saw in the 2000's rivalry.
2. Arizona Diamondbacks
They salvaged the week. They lost a series to the Dodgers and then with two starting pitchers down to injuries, they had to try and rely on some veteran arms to piece some innings together which didn't really happen... What makes this team so good is that Greinke came right back out there to set the tone and get this team going in the right direction once again. Their consistency keeps them up here, but the Yankees are just too damn hot right now to not have to bump this Dbacks team down one spot.

3. Boston Red Sox
They've got a big series this week. They're running into the hottest team in baseball right now, which is exactly what happened to the Yankees when they played the Red Sox earlier this season... This is going to be some fun baseball to watch and if we're lucky, we'll get some more of those unforgettable Yankees-Red Sox moments that we remember forever whether it be Babe Ruth, A-Rod getting his face smushed by Jason Varitek. Hopefully there won't be anymore throwing down of coaches...
4. Houston Astros
This team has hit a little bit of a rough patch and let the Angels right back into the AL West race faster then they should have. They still are hitting the ball well and we know their starting pitching is great, but they need to start finding a way to piece a few dubs in a row here and there to get them on a hot streak.
5. Los Angeles Angels
They answered the bell and have moved right behind the Astros once again. They're not red hot like they were to start the year, but they're finding a way to piece games together and hang around the AL West race... The teams that hang around are always a threat.
6. Atlanta Braves
The young talent is there. Matt Soroka had an impressive debut and then faced some adversity. But the good news for the Braves is that THEY ARE SO YOUNG! They are so young that of course they're going to have some growing pains... Yet they find themselves in first place in the NL East... That's a pretty nice set up.
7. Chicago Cubs
This team. I know a lot of you wrote into me about the Cubs and Dodgers struggles. The Cubs struggles are way different than the Dodgers. This team is still young at the plate and they have a lot of veteran arms that usually start to get rolling this time of the year when the young and inexperienced guys start getting tired and scouted out. Patience Cubs fans. Patience.
8. Philadelphia Phillies
Them and the Braves are paving the way for the future of the NL East. It's just a matter of adversity through some injuries right now for the Phillies and to see what young talent they have develops into superstar talent.
9. Cleveland Indians
I have to drop this team until they starting figuring it out... They let the Twins walk right back into the division race which is not a good idea because that Twins team is seriously underrated. They have the talent and most of their talent will be free agents next year... It's time to get on a run and prove to everyone you are that World Series team that Indians fans have been shorted of for so long.
10. Colorado Rockies
Great sweep of the Mets. And 5 wins in a row is always nice. This team had some major hiccups at the beginning of the year but is starting to settle in nicely. The Dodgers just left the door wide open for anyone to come in so good for the Rockies walking on in.

Rest of the Pack

23. Miami Marlins
24. Tampa Bay Rays
