MLB Power Rankings: May 22
The season is starting to take shape and we're starting to see some real impressive performances. However, we're also starting to have some serious concerns from teams that can't quite get the ball rolling...
Last Week Top 10
1.New York Yankees
2. Boston Red Sox
3. Houston Astros
4. Los Angeles Angels
5. Arizona Diamondbacks
6. Atlanta Braves
7. Chicago Cubs
8. Philadelphia Phillies
9. Washington Nationals
10. Cleveland Indians
New Top 10
1. New York Yankees
Another good week with not much separation in the AL East. The Yankees have the young talent and it's producing. Greg Bird could be back by this week and if he's hot this team becomes even more dangerous which is a scary thought.
2. Boston Red Sox
They're doing a great job keeping pace with the Yankees. In fact, their lineup of Xander, Mookie, Hanley, JD, Benintendi has me wanting to make this a tie for 1st in the Power Rankings. This race has been so entertaining and I expect that to continue.
3. Houston Astros
Their pitching staff is setting record marks to this point of the season. Altuve's power numbers have regressed and their catcher situation is hurting a bit, but their pitching staff has been so solid that it mends the tides.
4. Atlanta Braves
Sean Newcomb looks great on the mound. Albies, Acuna, Freeman, and Markakis look great at the plate. This team is taking it to the next level earlier than I thought they would.
5. Los Angeles Angels
Kind of a rough week. But they came back for a huge win against the Rays. They have the talent to make a push into the postseason. However, their pitching is still the big question mark to me.
6. Milwaukee Brewers
They're playing some good baseball right now. Their pitching has been better than expected and there's even more young talent on the way as the season progresses. The NL Central is wide open for the taking... Let's see who seizes the chance.
7. Philadelphia Phillies
Even with Kingery's struggles, the Phillies have put together a formidable team. If they can keep this consistent play up then they have a chance to see the postseason.
8. Washington Nationals
The season is starting to take shape. They miss Adam Eaton once again, but right now they're missing Bryce Harper more... They'll need more fire power in the lineup to help out their very good pitching staff.
9. Arizona Diamondbacks
Another rough week... Frustration is building... Their pitching isn't struggling so much, but surprisingly their offense is. They've been losing close games which makes it all the more painful. Now, the good news is that they're close games and if they can find a way to grind them out then they can get back into this... But for now, it's a slippery slope.
10. Chicago Cubs
They're hanging in there... But they still haven't shown that flash or winning streak we've been expecting. As long as they hang close, they'll have the advantage since I think they have the most talent in their division.
