MLB Power Rankings: April 17
It's that time! Find your favorite team and then send in the hate on why they aren't as high as you'd like! :)
Last week Top 10:
1. Houston Astros
2. Boston Red Sox
3. Arizona Diamondbacks
4. New York Yankees
5. Cleveland Indians
6. Chicago Cubs
7. Washington Nationals
8. Los Angeles Angels
9. New York Mets
10. Los Angeles Dodgers
They take over as the top team this week... As a Yankee fan it pains me to say this, but it's true. Their starting pitching looks great. Their lineup looks even better and Mookie Betts looks like an MVP candidate. The starting pitching and bullpen maintaining this level of success will be vital in the Red Sox keeping the #1 spot.
2. Houston Astros
They lost 3 in a row coming into these rankings. It's a small sample size to knock them off the block, but they'll have plenty of time to prove they deserve the number one slot back. Cole, Keuchel, Verlander, and Morton have been great on the mound, just the hitting needs to come into full swing.
3. Arizona Diamondbacks
They're proving they're the real deal so far. Zack Godley had his first hiccup of the season, but the Dbacks continue to find a way to get wins. This team rakes, and if their bullpen stays sharp then they are serious contenders.
4. Los Angeles Angels
This spot is a slippery slope for this team... They've been good, but their good is almost impossible to continue. Coming into Tuesday, their starting rotation has a 1.66 ERA which we know will start to balloon up. Things'll start to catch up to this team and they'll hit their baseball card, but until then enjoy it Angels fans.
5. New York Yankees
This team is definitely off to a slow start. However, they have the talent to turn it around and I think they will. I'll give them one more week before they start sliding down the slippery slope.
6. Cleveland Indians
This team is on slippery slope alert, as well. When you have someone pitching as good as Kluber is, you gotta win more games. But I have faith in the talent on this team and Francona as a manager... They'll find a way.
7. Washington Nationals
Bryce Harper hit a broken bat Homerun which is awesome. Meanwhile, the Nationals are still grinding their way back to the top of the NL East... The Mets blowing a 5 run lead to them on Monday is a good start.
8. Chicago Cubs
This team is about to get Rizzo back from the DL and is hoping it'll get the ball rolling... You always worry about the engine taking too long to start, that it'll end up never starting... It's going to start for the Cubs, the question is when...
9. New York Mets
Everyone thinks they should be higher on this list except for me... Why? Because Todd Frazier and A. Cabrera won't hit like this even by the All-Star break. And there's no way their starting pitching will have similar stats by the All-Star Break. A big losing streak might be on the horizon... It's just a matter of time before the Mets find themselves falling down the slippery slope...
10. Pittsburgh Pirates
Ahoy!... Ok that was cheesy, but the Pirates definitely aren't playing like swiss cheese... What was I talking about?... Oh yeah, the Pirates have some seriously good young talent that is being shown off right now and led by Starling Marte... The question becomes, can they be consistent enough to compete for the division?
The Rest of the Pack

*I think the Dodgers turnaround has begun... Look for them to start moving up the NL West and up these rankings*

16. Milwaukee Brewers
17. Philadelphia Phillies
18. Toronto Blue Jays

20. San Francisco Giants
21. Baltimore Orioles
22. Chicago White Sox
23. San Diego Padres
24. Texas Rangers
25. Kansas City Royals
26. Miami Marlins
27. Detroit Tigers
